Giving the Front Parlor a White Christmas.

When we bought the house it came with a rose-pink color scheme in the front parlor.  I believe that color is period-correct for the Georgian colonial era; however, it didn’t fit our vision for what the front parlor should look like.  Three years later, we are finally getting a chance to paint it- days before family comes in to visit.  It’s been a multi-day race with some ups and downs.

One of the most pressing issues to contend with was the existing wallpaper.  We knew that to do the job right it needed to be removed.  However, with the time limitations we were dealing with, we had to compromise and skip that step.  Instead of removing it, we prepped it for painting by cutting loose paper, filling holes, and and then sanding all the repair work done.  We then covered all the sandpaper with a layer of oil-based primer.  You end up with a paintable surface, but eventually run into defects you didn’t catch when prepping the surface.  It’s a compromise that hurts my heart, but it does mean we may be able to finish the room before family arrives Saturday afternoon.  We’ll follow up with another post once we have the room finished.
